Three Vice President’s Directions at the SAI20 Summit

Bali, Setwapres — The Covid-19 pandemic and the global crisis occurring in the world requires all countries to take unusual and immediate steps, where public budgets must be reallocated to deal with the impact of urgent priorities. In its implementation, the government also needs the support of audit institutions to ensure that central programs to recover from the impact of the crisis can be implemented in the right direction.

Therefore, the Vice President (VP) views that the Supreme Audit Institution Summit (KTT SAI) has an important role as a guide for the government to maintain discipline in the management of the state financial budget, through three aspects.

“Therefore, there are three things that I expect from the SAI20 Summit,” said VP K.H. Ma’ruf Amin in his speech while opening the SAI20 Summit at the Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua Hotel, Bali Tourism Development Corporation (BTDC) Tourism Area, Lot N5, Nusa Dua, Bali, Monday (29/08/2022).

Furthermore, the VP said, the support and guidance that can be provided by SAI is through the provision of a constructive audit perspective and aims to acquire a sustainable recovery of economic conditions.

“First, SAI20 should convey an independent audit perspective in order to assist the government in formulating policies for sustainable economic recovery, achieving SDGs targets, and preparing for future crises,” said the Vice President.
With an independent and constructive audit perspective, it is hoped that in the future all government programs can run in a sustainable manner.

“Secondly, SAI formulates a role in supporting the community, government and stakeholders in overcoming various global challenges, particularly related to the main issues of the G20 Presidency of Indonesia, namely strengthening the global health architecture, digitally-based economic transformation, and green economic development, including a fair and equitable energy transition,” added the VP.
The VP then stated that the challenges faced by a nation could be resolved properly if all elements of society joined hands and worked for hand in hand in overcoming the situation.

Third, the VP also emphasized the importance of networking between stakeholders, both from within and outside the country. This is because the different characteristics possessed by a country and certain actions that have been taken by previous stakeholders can be valuable lessons for today’s decision makers.

“The experience of past crises has noted the crucial role of auditors for state leaders, in making decisions during difficult times due to the crisis. To ensure the SAI20 Summit become a bridge and blend among the thoughts of foreign auditors, who of course have different mandates and experiences in responding to crises so that they can provide a rich of perspectives and ideas,” urged the VP.

Closing his remarks, the VP advised that the results of the SAI20 Summit could include the three directions above, so the document can be used as a reference for dialogue at the meeting of the leaders of the G20 countries in Bali in November 2022.

“I hope that the communique that will result from this summit will cover these three things, in addition to cooperation in increasing SAI’s capacity. This communique can later be used as a reference in preparing the declaration of the G20 Leaders in Bali in November 2022,” concluded the Vice President. (NN/LHS, BPMI – Setwapres)
