SAI20 Summit Attended by 12 G20 Participating Countries, Head of BPK: This is the First Step…

DENPASAR, – The Supreme Audit Institution (SAI20) Summit was held in Nusa Dua, Bali, on August 29-30, 2022. SAI20 is an engagement group at the G20 High Level Conference initiated by the Audit Board of the Republic of Indonesia (BPK). Head of BPK Isma Yatun said SAI20 was formed because the financial audit institutions in the G20 participating countries wanted to take part in the summit.

Isma said that the initiation of the formation of SAI20 as an engagement group had begun in the last year. Since then, there have been two results of discussions in a series of meetings that began in January 2022, namely the rules of procedure and a communique or joint statement regarding the acceleration of economic recovery and support for achieving sustainable development.

Isma added that 12 G20 participating countries attended the SAI20 Summit in Nusa Bali. Eight of them were present in person, while the other four were online. The G20 participating countries that are directly present in SAI20 are Indonesia, Australia, Argentina, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, India, and Russia. Meanwhile, Mexico, South Africa, China and Turkey are online. There were eight G20 country participants who did not attend SAI20 either in person or online. Namely, the European Union, Britain, the United States, Canada, Italy, Japan, Germany, and France.

Responding to this, Isma said, SAI20 is the first joint communication forum for financial audit institutions of G20 participating countries. “This is the first step, the first time that the state audit institutions in the G20 conduct a joint forum or forum called SAI20,” said Isma in Nusa Dua, Bali, Monday.

Isma added that this initial step will be continued with the next G20 presidency. “It will be continued continuously in the presidency of India G20 in 2023 and Brazil in 2024,” said Isma. Isma hopes that the financial audit institutions of all G20 participating countries can attend physically or virtually at the next meeting. “Now the G7 countries have also contributed to convey their enthusiasm for the formation of SAI20,” said Isma.

Meanwhile, Vice President Maruf Amin hopes that the SAI20 Summit can produce better efforts to deal with a number of problems, especially those related to national development. “Especially the achievement of development goals, the role of audit supervision becomes important in the context of normal, abnormal,” said Maruf Amin in Nusa Dua, Bali. Maruf hopes that SAI20 can become a forum for discussion for state financial institutions to share experiences. “We hope that the experience of each country enriches each institution in facing the challenges ahead,” said Maruf. Maruf also appreciated the BPK RI initiative to make this new engagement at the G20 Indonesia Presidency. He also hoped that a mutual agreement would emerge from “So I appreciate the initiative from BPK, the formation of SAI20 is a kind of legacy that is very hopeful for global meetings on auditing and supervision,” said Maruf.
